Giuseppe Preti (Rolo, 1692-1770) Drop-front desk with upper section, entirely veneered in walnut, elm, and maple. Opening top concealing drawers and secret compartments. Upper section with two richly shaped doors. Shaped and inlaid cornice, surmounted by turned pine cones. Rolo, first half of the 18th century cm 235 x 136 x 56 The furniture can certainly be attributed to the hand of the cabinetmaker Giuseppe Preti. For stylistic comparisons, see The Sacristy of Fabbrico, the Sacristy of the Old Canons in the Cathedral of Reggio Emilia (La Fabbriceria preserves the payments to Preti from 1751), The Choir of the Church of the Augustinian Fathers of Mirandola, built by Preti in 1763. Another piece of Sacristy furniture of similar design is kept in the Church of the SS. Crocifisso in Carpi. Ours is the only example of a trumeau desk produced by Preti known to date on the market and in private collections.
